Telecoms UPS Systems for Switches and PBX Applications

ECO Power telecoms uninterruptible power supplies offer a wide set of options and accessories. Most of the UPS systems within this collection have either an internal or external battery pack (see individual product specifications) providing a set battery runtime (load dependent). Battery runtime can be extended by oversizing the UPS and battery set, or through the connection of additional battery extension packs. A target recharge time is 80% within 24 hours and some battery extension packs have additional chargers built-in to help achieve a faster recharge time.

Telecoms UPS can be floor standing or rackmount in format with some offering a dual feature that allows them to be installed in either format – normally with a front panel display that can rotate to accommodate the installation type.

When planning a telecoms UPS installation it is important to ensure that there are enough mains power sockets or fused spurs to supply the uninterruptible power supply, and its associated battery charger enabled extension packs where fitted. An external maintenance bypass can also be useful for continuous operation during maintenance or UPS system upgrade. UPS sizing is also important. To keep a telecoms system running during a mains power failure, all associated peripherals should be powered including hubs, routers, VoIP and PoE accessories.

Power Protection Notes for Telecoms Applications

Telecoms require 24-7 uptime and the recommended uninterruptible power supply for such an application is one using On-line technology due to its built-in automatic transfer switch. This provides a fail-safe-to-mains feature that monitors the UPS output supply. If it sees this collapsing or failing, the connected load is automatically transferred to the mains supply.

Additional resilience can be added through the installation of an external maintenance bypass switch. This allows the UPS to be powered down, swapped out and upgraded without interruptible to the load. The installation is a little more complex but maintenance bypasses with plug n play connections are available up to 2kVA and for additional security hardwired versions (standard above 2kVA) are available.
